Double Portion - No Mentor, No Mantle

When Elijah found Elisha, he was plowing.  Elisha was not in the school of the prophets, he was not doing an online study to learn prophetic etiquette or how prophets were suppose to dress or look like - he was plowing.

When Elijah passed by him, he cast his mantle upon  him and kept walking.  He didn't tell Elisha to give him a high five on his new promotion or tell him that his prophetic ordination would cost him 250.00 a year to renew.  No, he did what God told him to do and nothing more.

When Elisha received the mantle he immediately left the oxen and ran after Elijah. (1 Kings 19:20)  The first thing I want you to notice is that Elisha gave Elijah his mantle back.  I know this because in 2 Kings 2:13 it says, "He (Elisha) took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him......" (emphasis mine)

The point is this - don't try to wear a mantle (office) that you have not been taught how to walk in by the person whom God has instructed to place a mantle upon you.  No MENTOR, no MANTLE.  Elisha followed Elijah everywhere he went to see how he not only carried what was being given to him but to understand how that gift and anointing operated in a seasoned man of God who had operated in and demonstrated the office of prophet.

Because he honored the man of God he had access to the man of God.  No honor, no access.

In our next post we will go further.  I want to just give you something each time to chew on, meditate and ponder.  God bless you.

Double Portion

2Kings 2:9  "And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me." [KJV]

I want to make an observation throughout these post and you tell me what you glean from them.
God had instructed Elijah to go an anoint three people: Hazael to be king over Syria, Jehu to be king over Israel and Elisha to replace him in his office, since the Lord was calling Elijah home.
The purpose of this was to judge Ahab's house.

First thought - Do you ever wonder who's house God is getting ready to judge when he starts putting certain "kings" and "prophets" in place.

Second thought - Have you ever considered that God just putting a mantle on you does not necessarily qualify you to walk in that office?

Third thought - Have you ever wondered (and I speaking to those who have been called to a specific office and are being mentored) why your mentor will let you walk through certain things and take you through certain things and not address it or test you in that place to see how you respond?

Fourth thought - Why is it that nobody is ever concerned about you or your gift until you start actually walking in it?

Fifth thought - Why do people act like you are not in the office they think they are in just because you don't act like them?  You make yourself a servant and they want to be served.  SAME office but two different approaches with two different outcomes.

Here are the five thoughts we will be addressing throughout these series of blogs, along with other nuggets.  I look forward to hearing from you!
